Today,
one of the major epidemics challenging the global
community is HIV/AIDS. Inspite of its late entry
into India, our country has the largest number of
HIV infected population because of the phenomenal
spread.
The
only ray of hope to HIV infected is HAART (Highly
Active Antiretroviral Therapy), a combination of
different classes of drugs that can halt the
progression of the disease and improve the quality
and quantity of life of patients.
In
India, HAART was not available until a year ago,
and was with limited drug options. The prices of the
drugs were exorbitant and the treatment was not
affordable to many. Added to the problem is the
trauma in the family and apathy of the society
towards the HIV infected. The need of the hour is
definitely a positive outlook towards the HIV
positive.
Imunus,
the antiviral division of Aurobindo Pharma, is
networking an effort to arrest the progression of
HIV to AIDS. The mission at Imunus is to offer wider
product options at affordable prices. Imunus also
strives to network with government organisations/NGOs
to motivate patients to take treatment and
mobilize funds for them. |
